ABOUT THE TOOL
This toolkit aims to restore safer, stronger and more inclusive main street areas and commercial areas that have been severely affected during the pandemic. Its content is based on public health directions, research, stakeholder input, expert insight and emerging best practices during the first months of the virus outbreak. It can be used by anyone who wants to see their main streets thrive in the short and long term, from residents to city staff and policymakers. So it focuses not only on experimentation during COVID-19, but also on the future. It guides you through the process in a very structured way by firstly identifying ambitions and goals and then providing approaches to effectively reallocate space for people, with a clear focus on rapid placemaking. Lastly, some very concrete interventions are listed up to serve as inspiration to wonderfully transform your own street!
