Re-Purposing Sections of Streets

15 June - 15 July 2019 (One month)

Central City government of Amsterdam, East municipal department, Smart Mobility, Urbee, Parkbee and Weesperzijde Community.

Fifty-four parking spaces were temporarily eliminated in a selected part of the neighbourhood. The free parking spaces were then redesigned by the community and the people from Smart Mobility team with bike racks, shared electric (cargo-)bikes, e-cars and parklet-style urban gardens. In addition to the HUBS and other facilities offered by Smart Mobility, the community also arranged (and paid for) a lot of green street furniture on their own initiative.

For Smart Mobility: to reduce car dependency and to promote the use of shared electric mobility on the long term. For the leaders of the citizen initiative: to explore what a car-free street could look like; if and how it can be attained.
